Because of You, We Are a Great College to Work For

President Capilouto sent the following message to campus on Monday, Sept. 14.

Dear Campus Community,

Since I joined this special community more than nine years ago, I’ve repeatedly witnessed our university’s mission of education, research, service and care shining through the boundless commitment of our people. The essentiality of this place—and the work you do—has perhaps never been clearer than this year, as we combat the COVID-19 virus and its impact on the communities we serve.

Because of you, we are declaring in a common voice the most important message we can relay: that we care.

Today, our campus is being recognized nationally for the environment that supports your efforts to foster a community of care. We are gratified to be named a “Great College to Work For” in 2020 by ModernThink, reported in the Chronicle of Higher Education.

This recognition is about one thing: you.

You – our faculty and staff – create this community. You make it possible – from faculty stepping up to teach and mentor students in new ways, to staff who earlier this year called more 30,000 students to check in during a time of increased stress and anxiety.

This year is the third consecutive year UK has received this recognition for fostering an outstanding work environment. For 2020, UK has been recognized in eight of the 12 categories, giving us the special designation as an Honor Roll institution. This represents the most categories for which UK has ever been recognized, and it is our first time as an Honor Roll member.

You can read more about this here.

This recognition is especially gratifying because it is based primarily on faculty and staff feedback about how you feel about the institution. More than anything, though, it reflects the environment that you have built and that you work to sustain each day.

Thank you for all you do to create such a community.

Sincerely,

Eli Capilouto President
