Register for McConnell Conference by Jan. 15

LEXINGTON, Ky. (Jan. 8, 2010) - The University of Kentucky’s School of Library and Information Science (UK SLIS) announces its McConnell Youth Literature Conference to be held Feb. 26-27 at the Griffin Gate Marriott on Newtown Pike in Lexington.  The deadline for early registration is Jan. 15.

Advanced registration is required, as there will not be on-site registration at the conference. The early registration fee is $90, while the regular registration fee is $130. The regular registration deadline is Feb. 12.

The early registration fee for Friday only is $35, and for Saturday only is $55. The regular registration fee for Friday only is $55 and for Saturday only is $75.

The McConnell Conference draws librarians, teachers, and other professionals who work with youth to share ideas, examine materials, and meet authors, illustrators, and other leaders in the field of youth literature.


Guest presenters include author John Green, whose works include "Looking for Alaska," and "An Abudance of Katherines"; professional writer Dandi Daley Mackall, who has written dozens of articles for popular magazines and published approximately 400 books for children, teens, and adults; and David Wiesner, author and illustrator of more than 20 works and mulitple Caldecott Award recipient.

The McConnell Center for the Study of Youth Literature, named after educator and mentor Anne McConnell, was created and is maintained to serve as a unique examination, study, and research center of the UK School of Library and Information Science. The McConnell Center supports teaching, learning and research related to children's and teen/young adult literature by serving as a resource for UK students, UK faculty, researchers, public librarians, school librarians, teachers, child care providers, parents, authors and illustrators of youth literature, and other adults who work with children.
