Anti-Love Springs Eternal
LEXINGTON, Ky. (Feb. 14, 2011) — Hate Valentine's Day? The University of Kentucky campus community can slam some anti-love poetry in a judgment-free environment while venting their frustration. Just bring as many poems as you want to the Anti-Love Poetry Slam in the Cats Den, beginning at 7 p.m. Monday, Feb. 14. The poems can be any style, any length, absolutely no restrictions.
Then, at 8 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 16, the laugh-out-loud Comedy Caravan brings the hilarious jokester Ryan Singer to the Cats Den. Singer has been called the rarest of the comedian breed. His unpretentious and uncompromising stand-up connects insanity and sheer brilliance. Punchline Magazine recently selected Singer as having one of the Top 10 Comedy CDs of 2010. He has even taken his act on television premiering as one of the four finalists on CMT’s Next Big Comic Contest. You can even check him out on the Bob and Tom Show.
Ending the week on a musical note is a free concert on Thursday, Feb. 17, featuring the eclectic City Center at 8 p.m. Can you image searching your entire life for the perfect pop music? Well, that is what Fred Thomas has done. In fact, he has created his own melodious beats that might just blow your socks off. The music of City Center has been called organic and home brewed. The most recent musical compilation includes songs such as "Killer Whale" and "Open House." Indie pop music has rarely sounded so warm or quite so open-hearted before.
If these Cats Den events aren't enough, the Student Center's Worsham Theatre is host to a concert, “Paws and Kats After Dark,” which will feature performances by UK’s own acoUstiKats and Paws and Listen at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 15. Following the concert will be a complimentary dessert reception sponsored by the Student Center Director’s Office and UK Dining Services. Tickets for "Paws and Kats After Dark" are $5 for students and $10 for the general public and can be purchased at Ticketmaster.
