Conference Explores Improving Learning With Assessment

LEXINGTON, Ky, (June 7, 2011) — The Association for the Assessment of Learning in Higher Education (AALHE), in conjunction with the University of Kentucky, has completed its first conference, "The Practice of Assessment." The conference, held at the Lexington Hyatt Hotel and the UK Student Center, attracted learning assessment practitioners and others from colleges and universities around the country June 5-7. 

The focus of the conference, which is expected to be held annually, was the practice of the assessment of student learning as a strategy to improve student learning.  The conference was designed to facilitate dialogue within and across groups of assessment practitioners including faculty, administrators, student affairs officers, institutional researchers and others who collect, analyze and use assessment data to improve student learning.

AALHE is an independent professional organization housed at UK.  It provides resources and support to assessment practitioners' professional development and the open discussion of issues, strategies, policies and processes associated with higher education's use of assessment as a tool to improve student learning and institutional effectiveness in fostering student success.
