Full Power Restored to Kirwan Tower

LEXINGTON, Ky. (Oct. 9, 2012) — Crews replaced a blown transformer and restored full power to Kirwan Tower on the University of Kentucky campus by around 12:30 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 9.

Power and water were shut down after a water pipe broke and blew a tranformer around 6:30 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 7.  Power was restored to the upper floors, and water was restored to the full building by Monday morning, however generators were used to provide emergency lighting to floors 10 and below in hallways, stairwells and toilet areas of the bathrooms.

Life safety features including sprinklers and fire alarms were operational, and one elevator was in service during the power outage.

Flashlights and extra blankets were provided to students in the lower floors of the residence hall last night.
