Lyman T. Johnson Homecoming Celebration Kicks Off Oct. 17

LEXINGTON, Ky. (Oct. 4, 2018) — The University of Kentucky Alumni Association’s Lyman T. Johnson African American Alumni Group has set the schedule for its 2018 Lyman T. Johnson Homecoming Celebration. 

The schedule of activities kicks off with the 28th annual Mo-Betta Basketball Game at 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 17, at the Seaton Center Gymnasium, 1210 University Dr.

On Thursday, Oct. 18, the Mr. & Ms. Black UK Pageant is at 6:30 p.m. at Memorial Hall.

The celebration is headlined by the 28th annual Lyman T. Johnson Torch of Excellence Awards Dinner Friday, Oct. 19. This event’s program honors one African-American alum and one African-American student from each college whose achievements have positively impacted the lives of people on the UK campus, the city, state or nation. The event at Kroger Field’s Woodford Reserve Club begins with a reception at 5:30 p.m. followed by dinner and the awards presentation.

Following the awards dinner on Oct. 19, the National Pan-Hellenic Council (NPHC) is hosting an Alumni Reception and Homecoming Party. The Alumni Reception is slated 8:30-10 p.m. in the Great Hall of the Gatton Student Center. The Homecoming Party will be 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. in Ballrooms A and B of the Gatton Student Center. This reception is co-hosted by the UK Office for Institutional Diversity.

The Martin Luther King Center tour and reception, sponsored by the UK Office for Institutional Diversity, is at 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 20. (Time is subject to change based on UK football kickoff.) The UK Alumni Association Homecoming Tailgate Party begins two hours and 30 minutes prior to the football game against Vanderbilt.
