Move-In Weekend Impacts Parking on Campus

LEXINGTON, Ky. (Aug. 18, 2011) — With the influx of new University of Kentucky students and their parents to campus for Move-In Weekend and the need to quickly unload vehicles near residence halls, several areas of campus will be no-parking zones from 6 p.m. Thursday, August 18, through 6 p.m. Friday, August 19.

The impacted areas include:

•           Complex Drive, from University to Sports Center

•           Donovan Drive

•           Hall Director spaces in the large R3 Parking Lot (behind Ingels Hall)

•           Martin Luther King E/R1 Parking Lot

•           Sports Center Drive

•           University Drive (East side)

For South Campus residence hall move-in on August 19-21, students and parents moving into the residence halls in the Kirwan-Blanding area will be offered two hours free parking in Parking Structure #7. Parking Structure #7 is located on Sports Center Drive.

All vehicles must be removed from Parking Structure #7 prior to closing (10 p.m.) each evening. Overnight parking without prior approval from PTS is prohibited.

Travel on campus is expected to run smoother after Huguelet Drive between Limestone and University Drive is completely open.  The street is expected to reopen tonight following completion of steam line upgrade work that has closed portions of the street for most of the summer.

Members of the campus community are encouraged to tune into 1700 AM (WQKH 253) to hear campus parking and transportation information. The station broadcasts 24 hours, seven days a week.
