New UK Citizens Police Academy Begins Jan. 25

LEXINGTON, Ky. (Jan. 17, 2017) — As part of the ongoing effort of the University of Kentucky Police Department to provide the highest level of protection to the campus community, it is the department's mission to foster more cohesive relationships between law enforcement officers and the community.  One way that is achieved is through the UK Citizens Police Academy (CPA).  Each semester UKPD offers this free series of seven classes covering several aspects of policing.

The next series of Citizens Police Academy classes will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesdays, Jan. 25 - March 22 (March 15 will not meet due to Spring Break). Classes will be conducted at The 90 on Hilltop Drive. Upon attendance at all seven courses, participants will take part in a formal graduation ceremony. Registration is open now through the first day of class, Jan. 25.

The CPA is open to all UK faculty, staff, students, and members of the community who are 18 years or older with no prior felony convictions. Prospective participants must complete a course application and submit to an electronic background check.

Topics presented during the CPA include:

•           University Policing Overview

•           Criminal Procedure

•           K-9 Operations
