Power to be Restored to Kirwan Tower Monday

LEXINGTON, Ky. (Oct. 8, 2012) — Water and partial power have been restored to the University of Kentucky's Kirwan Tower residence hall following an outage last night.  The outage occurred Sunday evening after a water pipe broke causing a transformer to go out.  Full power is expected to be restored by Monday evening, Oct. 8.

Students were initially evacuated, but were allowed back into the residence hall for the night. Lights on floors 11 through 22 are working and in other areas of the residence hall emergency generator power is providing lighting in the hallways, toilet areas of the bathrooms and the stairwells. All fire alarms are fully functional.

Kirwan Tower residents on the lower floors are being asked to take showers at the Johnson Center because the emergency lighting does not illuminate shower areas.
