Six to be Inducted into Journalism Hall of Fame

LEXINGTON, Ky. (Feb. 29, 2012) — Six new members will be inducted into the Kentucky Journalism Hall of Fame Wednesday, April 11, at Fasig-Tipton Kentucky. The six will be inducted into the Hall of Fame at a luncheon ceremony sponsored by the University of Kentucky School of Journalism and Telecommunications Alumni Association.

That evening, the school will hold its 35th annual Joe Creason Lecture at 6:30 p.m. in Memorial Hall on the UK campus. This year's presenter of the lecture is John Harwood, chief Washington correspondent for CNBC and a political writer for the New York Times.

The 2012 Hall of Fame inductees are: 

Albert B. “Ben” Chandler, Jr., publisher of The Woodford Sun and writer of the “Happy Landings” editorial column in that newspaper.

D.J. Everett III, president of Ham Broadcasting Company, which operates three radio stations serving Western Kentucky and Tennessee, WKDZ-FM, WKDZ-AM and WHVO.

Chip Hutcheson, publisher of the The Times Leader in Princeton, Ky., past president of the Kentucky Press Association.

Bill Luster, retired photojournalist with The Courier-Journal and winner of Pulitzer Prizes in 1976 and 1989, among numerous other awards.

Dr. Bob McGaughey, retired chairman of the Department of Journalism and Mass Communication at Murray State University.

Michael M. York, former reporter with the Lexington Herald-Leader and The Washington Post and winner of the 1986 Pulitzer Prize for Investigative Reporting.  Now an attorney in Washington, D.C.

The six new honorees will join 178 other journalists inducted into the Hall of Fame since its 1981 inception. Selection of honorees is made by a committee representing the state’s media, the UK Journalism Alumni Association, and the University of Kentucky. Nominees must be either Kentucky natives or outstanding journalists who have spent the bulk of their careers in the state.
