Smoke Causes McVey Hall to Close for a Few Hours
LEXINGTON, Ky. (Sept. 1, 2015) — A small fire in the University of Kentucky's McVey Hall this morning forced evacuation and the building to close for a few hours. What is thought to be a fire from an electrical device was contained to an office in the WUKY radio station on the third floor, however heavy smoke spread through out that level of the building. No one was injured.
Occupants of the basement, first and second floor offices were allowed back into the building around 9:30 a.m.
A fire call was made at 7:19 a.m., and Lexington Fire Department responded, quickly extinguishing the fire. UK Facilities Management is on the scene and expects to bring in large fans to ventilate the third floor. Occupants of the third floor are expected to return to their offices by noon.
The third floor of McVey houses WUKY and offices of Center for Computational Sciences.
