WUKY Begins Fall Pledge Drive

LEXINGTON, Ky. (Oct. 15, 2009) - To maintain quality and award-winning programming, WUKY 91.3 FM begins its week-long fall pledge drive today, Thursday, Oct. 15. In addition to the University of Kentucky, the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, and program underwriters, WUKY receives substantial funding from its membership, listeners who regularly give their financial support to the radio station.

"Our pledge drive helps raise funds for programs such as NPR news, BBC news, Garrison Keillor, and Car Talk as well as Rock and Roots music," said Gail Bennett, marketing director for WUKY.

The goal this fall is 1,000 pledges. The station has many incentive gifts and drawings for prizes that include two gift cards from the Louisville International Airport to fly to any destination and a limited edition UK guitar made by Epitone and donated by Willcutt Guitars of Lexington.

Listeners can tune into WUKY at 91.3 FM or online at WUKY.org. Pledges also can be made by calling into the station at (859) 257-9600.

The first university-owned FM radio station in America, WUKY also is Kentucky's first public radio station. It began operating as WBKY Oct. 17, 1940, in Beattyville, Ky. In 1945, WBKY came to Lexington, and in 1989, WBKY changed its call letters to WUKY to better reflect its affiliation with the University of Kentucky.
