TaxiCats Service Temporarily Discontinued

LEXINGTON, Ky. (Sept. 10, 2010) – TaxiCats, the discounted taxi service for University of Kentucky students, has been temporarily discontinued, effective immediately.

The vendor previously providing the discounted taxi service was recently sold, resulting in the temporary suspension of program. UK Parking & Transportation Services (PTS) is in talks with local taxi companies to continue the TaxiCats program.

In the interim, UK students and employees still have a number of late night transportation options, including on- and off-campus bus service, trolley service and a safety escort service.

PTS offers the Yellow Night Route, which runs Monday through Thursday, between 6 p.m. and midnight, and the Green Night Route, which operates Friday and Saturday between 7 p.m. and 3 a.m. Additionally, PTS operates an On-Demand Night Bus service Sunday from 7 p.m. to midnight, and Monday through Thursday, from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m. Students and employees may telephone the driver directly at 221-RIDE (7433) to make pick-up requests. The bus driver will make every effort to accommodate reasonable requests. Calls must be received at least 30 minutes prior to the end of on-demand service. Members of the campus community can reach SAFE CATS, the student safety escort services, by calling (859) 257-SAFE (257-7233).

For off-campus transportation, students and employees may utilize LexTran buses and the Colt Trolley system. Routes and schedules for these services can be found at www.lextranonthemove.org and http://colttrolley.com. LexTran fare is $1 per ride, while Colt Trolley service is free of charge.
