Update your UK Alert preferences in MyUK to ensure you are notified in the event of an emergency.

Please note the UK Alert Test has been moved from Wednesday, March 5 to Friday, March 7.

LEXINGTON, Ky. (March 3, 2025) — The University of Kentucky Police Department’s Division of Crisis Management and Preparedness will conduct a TEST of the campus emergency notification system, UK Alert, at 10 a.m. Friday, March 7. This test will be shortly followed by a statewide tornado drill led by the National Weather Service at 10:07 a.m.

The UK Alert system will issue a university-wide message saying, "This is a test. The UK Police Department is conducting a test of the UK Alert system. Please complete the survey at go.uky.edu/ukalertsurvey.”

This is an opportunity to test all alert methods through the emergency notification system: text, email, phone calls, digital signage, VoIP Phones, indoor speakers, desktop notification, outdoor speakers (Blue Emergency Towers), the UK website (uky.edu), as well as the university's X and Facebook accounts.

Prior to the test, please take a moment to review emergency preparedness and response information here. Additionally, following the test, please take this short survey.

Your safety is one of our most important priorities at the University of Kentucky.

A critical element in ensuring the safety of our community is a continual willingness to test ourselves and our capabilities. Preparedness is the best form of prevention.

This opportunity is also an optimal time to adjust your UK Alert preferences so you are notified via email, phone and/or text message in the case of class cancellation, severe weather or incidents on campus requiring immediate action.

UK Alert email messages are automatically sent to all individuals with a UK email address. However, you must add your phone number to the UK Alert database in order to receive calls or text messages. Your phone number will not be shared.

For more information, visit this link or go to your myUK portal and click on "UK Alert."

Finally, we also want to remind you to download the LiveSafe app on your smartphone for increased campus safety and an easy way to find all your campus resources.

If you have any questions or concerns regarding this drill, please contact the UK Division of Crisis Management and Preparedness at CMP@uky.edu.

(If you are a supervisor, please communicate this information to your staff, especially those without computer access.)

As the state’s flagship, land-grant institution, the University of Kentucky exists to advance the Commonwealth. We pride ourselves on being a catalyst for breakthroughs and a force for healing, a place where ingenuity unfolds. It's all made possible by our people — visionaries, disruptors and pioneers — who make up 200 academic programs, a $476.5 million research and development enterprise and a world-class medical center, all on one campus.
