UK Campus Celebrates Black History Month

LEXINGTON, Ky. (Feb. 1, 2018) — In honor of Black History Month, organizations and offices across the University of Kentucky campus will host and participate in a variety of events.

"The observation of Black History Month allows the history and culture of black Americans to be unapologetically centered, for a moment, in recognition of our past and present challenges, struggles and accomplishments," said Kahlil Baker, director of the Martin Luther King Center.

Events include:

Feb. 1: "Decolonizing the Academy," noon, Woodward Hall/Gatton College Building

Feb. 2: Get Cozy with NPHC, 5 p.m., Cats Den

Feb. 6: "The Undocumented Struggle: A Night with Black Panther's Bamabadjan Bamba and Erin Howard of BCTC's Latino Outreach Office," 7 p.m., Memorial Hall

Feb. 8: King Cinema Presents: "Marshall," 7 p.m., Memorial Hall

Feb. 9: Sister Circle Forum, 2 p.m., The 90

Feb. 12: "Dykeaspora: Queer Women in the U.S. Diaspora," noon, Alumni Gallery at William T. Young Library

Feb. 13: "Seafood Lady Talk: Family, Kitchen and Entrepreneurship," 5:30 p.m., Woodward Hall/Gatton College Building
