UK closed Wednesday, Jan. 28
LEXINGTON, Ky. (Jan. 27, 2026) — In the interest of the safety and well-being of the campus community, the University of Kentucky will be closed Wednesday, Jan. 28, due to inclement weather.
This decision is to keep the campus community safe, and it is a demonstration of safety as UK’s top priority.
UK will return to normal operations on Thursday, Jan. 29. UK will use the time Wednesday to continue to prepare campus for reopening on Thursday.
UK leadership is encouraging the community to prepare for cold temperatures. Find the full list of reminders at go.uky.edu/ColdWeather and review tips to navigate campus safely in winter weather, including maps showing which sidewalks are cleared first.
Leadership will continue to monitor conditions closely and provide updates via email and at www.uky.edu/alerts.
UK HealthCare facilities remain open and are operating on regular schedule.
In-person activities for students are canceled.
University Plan B (designated) employees are to report to work. Designated employees via remote access should work remotely during Plan B operations. If employees have questions about procedures for their work, they should contact their supervisor.
This decision gives our facilities and grounds crews another day to focus on parking lots and sidewalks. If you encounter any locations that need additional attention, please report them to snow@uky.edu.
