LEXINGTON, Ky. (April 2, 2026) — Curiosity and creativity will be on full display this spring as the University of Kentucky College of Pharmacy invites the campus and Lexington community to experience “The Wonders of Pharmacy” — a free, family-friendly event designed to showcase the many ways pharmacists and pharmaceutical scientists improve lives.

The event is 11 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday, April 25, at the Lee T. Todd, Jr. Building, offering an interactive, choose-your-own-adventure experience for attendees of all ages.

Led by Olufunmilola Abraham, Ph.D., and the College of Pharmacy’s Collaborative Research on MEdication use & family health (CRoME) Lab, “The Wonders of Pharmacy” will feature hands-on stations where guests can step into the role of a pharmacist — from compounding medications to learning about patient care through engaging games and miniclinics.

“This event is about opening doors and expanding how people think about pharmacists, pharmaceutical scientists and pharmacy,” said Abraham. “For example, many people associate pharmacists with dispensing medications, but the profession is so much more — it’s about improving health outcomes, advancing science and making meaningful connections with patients, families and communities.”

Throughout the event, visitors will explore interactive stations led by UK faculty, students and community partners. Activities will include medication safety challenges, demonstrations on managing conditions like asthma, diabetes and high blood pressure, and opportunities to learn about pharmacy careers at hospitals, in research, industry and beyond.

Abraham said the goal is to create an environment where learning feels natural, exciting, and accessible.

“We designed ‘The Wonders of Pharmacy’ to be hands-on and welcoming,” she said. “When students and families can see, touch and experience what pharmacists and pharmaceutical scientists do, it becomes real. We hope attendees walk away inspired — maybe even seeing themselves in a white coat one day.”

The program builds on a successful model first launched by Abraham at the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 2024, where more than 30 interactive stations connected students and families with pharmacy professionals. UK’s event aims to build on that momentum, tailoring the experience to Kentucky communities.

Whether attendees are exploring career options, supporting a student’s interests or simply looking for a fun and educational way to spend the day, the event offers something for everyone.

“This is about sparking curiosity at every level,” Abraham said. “You don’t have to know anything about pharmacy to enjoy this event — just bring your questions and your sense of wonder.”
