LEXINGTON, Ky. (Dec. 11, 2023) — The University of Kentucky Smart Campus Initiative is hosting an "Intro to Esports" winter camp. This innovative, interactive camp invites kids aged 8-12 to explore the thrilling universe of electronic sports.

Taking place from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 20, the camp will offer a comprehensive dive into the world of esports. The program encourages leadership, advanced strategic thinking and collaboration, all within a healthy competitive framework.

From learning the ropes of competitive gaming to discovering the art of teamwork and strategic thinking, this camp provides an engaging balance of education and entertainment. Whether your child is new to gaming or a seasoned player, campers will embark on a rewarding journey into the heart of esports, supported by experienced coaches, state-of-the-art technology and a vibrant, inclusive community.

The camp is $129 for UK employees with their UK LinkBlue ID and $149 for Lexington community members. To register, click on the "Registration Form" button at this link. Fill out all the necessary details in the form and double-check the information for accuracy before submitting. After completing the registration form, proceed to the secure payment portal. Upon receipt of payment, required forms and waivers will be emailed.

Both pick-up and drop-off will take place inside The Cornerstone building, which is conveniently located next to A Cup of Commonwealth Coffee shop. This location is easily accessible and provides a comfortable space for your children to wait.

Please ensure that your child brings their lunch, water bottle and completed forms and waivers. These items are essential for their participation in the camp. If any of these are missing, it may hinder your child's ability to join in the day's activities.

Campers can be dropped off as early as 7:30 a.m. and picked up as late as 6 p.m.

If you have any questions or need help with the registration process, don't hesitate to contact the Camp Administration Team. You can reach them at cornerstone@uky.edu.

As the state’s flagship, land-grant institution, the University of Kentucky exists to advance the Commonwealth. We do that by preparing the next generation of leaders — placing students at the heart of everything we do — and transforming the lives of Kentuckians through education, research and creative work, service and health care. We pride ourselves on being a catalyst for breakthroughs and a force for healing, a place where ingenuity unfolds. It's all made possible by our people — visionaries, disruptors and pioneers — who make up 200 academic programs, a $476.5 million research and development enterprise and a world-class medical center, all on one campus.

In 2022, UK was ranked by Forbes as one of the “Best Employers for New Grads” and named a “Diversity Champion” by INSIGHT into Diversity, a testament to our commitment to advance Kentucky and create a community of belonging for everyone. While our mission looks different in many ways than it did in 1865, the vision of service to our Commonwealth and the world remains the same. We are the University for Kentucky.
