UK Taking Nominations for Honorary Doctorates for December Commencement

LEXINGTON, Ky. (March 20, 2012) ― The University Joint Committee on Honorary Degrees is seeking nominations for honorary doctorates to be awarded at the University of Kentucky's December Commencement Friday, Dec. 14, 2012.

Traditionally, honorary doctorate degrees had been given at May Commencement, but because the university established a December Commencement ceremony, University Senate has expanded the awarding of honorary degrees to include December as well as May Commencements.

An honorary doctorate is granted for the purpose of recognizing those persons who exemplify the ideals of the University of Kentucky through sustained achievement and distinction of national or international significance.

Nominations should be sent via email to Frieda Gebert, frieda.gebert@uky.edu, by April 15, 2012. Nominations may be made by faculty, students, staff, and friends of the University of Kentucky.

The committee's selection process is guided by the criteria, principles, and guidelines approved by the Graduate Faculty, and that information can be found at the honorary degree website at http://www.research.uky.edu/gs/About/honorary_degrees.html.
