Water Service Restored to South Campus; No Boil Water Advisory

LEXINGTON, Ky. (Oct. 19, 2011) — A water main break on campus around 5 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 18, resulted in a water shut off on many parts of South Campus Tuesday night, however full service was expected by 5 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 19.  At first campus officials expected a boiled water advisory would be issued, however that is not the case. 

 The water main break in the Cooperstown area of campus resulted in Kentucky American Water Company turning water off to the Cooperstown graduate student housing complex; the Blanding Towers and Complex; Baldwin, Ingels, and Smith Halls while they worked on the break.  Water was turned off to the W.T. Young Library, which closed and is expected to reopen at 7 a.m. Wednesday morning.

Water at Cooperstown was restored around midnight and water was expected to be restored to the other residence halls by 5 a.m. Wednesday.

UK Housing worked with some 2,500 residents affected by the water shut-off providing bottled water to Cooperstown residents, mostly families in the graduate apartment housing complex.

University of Kentucky Police also closed Cooperstown Drive between Oldham Court and Sports Center Drive as Kentucky American Water Company addressed the water main break, but it has reopened.
