Woodland and Columbia Intersection Reopened
LEXINGTON, Ky. (Oct. 29, 2013) — University of Kentucky Police report that the intersection of Columbia and Woodland Avenue on the UK campus has reopened after a utility pole was replaced in the area this morning. The intersection has reopened to its previous modified traffic flow due to construction in the area.
The utility pole replacement was necessary after a stolen vehicle struck the pole on Columbia Avenue during a brief police pursuit around 1 a.m. today. A UK Police officer observed a vehicle recently reported stolen driving south on Rose Street. When the officer initiated a traffic stop, the driver of the stolen vehicle refused to stop and fled east bound on Columbia Avenue. A brief pursuit began and ended when the driver of the stolen vehicle lost control and struck the utility pole. No injuries were reported.
The driver, Ra'sheen Culpepper, 18, fled on foot, however, he later turned himself in at the UK Police Department around 7:30 a.m. today. He was arrested and charged with theft by unlawful taking of an automobile; wanton endangerment; fleeing and evading police; leaving the scene of an accident; no driver's license; and criminal mischief. UK Police arrested two additional occupants, Oshea George and Thomas Brown, both 18, and charged them with receiving stolen property.
