Luau for Life at Talon Winery Raises Funds for Pediatric Survivors Picnic

LEXINGTON, Ky. (June 6, 2016) — Kentucky Children’s Hospital (KCH) staff members will host the 7th annual Luau for Life at Talon Winery on June 11 to raise funds for the annual Pediatric Cancer Survivor Picnic.

The Hawaiian-themed fundraiser is open to the public and includes a variety of local wine for purchase, food, a silent auction and live music from 6 to 9:30 p.m. at Talon Winery at 7086 Tates Creek Road. Artists Matt Gerwin and the Jump the Curb band will provide live music on the lawn. All proceeds from the event fund the Pediatric Cancer Survivor Picnic, a private event for families of the KCH DanceBlue Hematology/Oncology Clinic held in August.

Each year, the winemakers at Talon Winery produce a special wine label illustrated by a pediatric cancer patient from Kentucky Children’s Hospital DanceBlue Hematology/Oncology Clinic. Isaiah Thompson, a 9-year-old KCH patient who received treatment for acute lymphoblastic leukemia and passed away in May 2016, created this year’s label, titled “Hooked on a Cure.” In honor of his memory, donations in the amounts of $17, $20 and $25 will receive one commemorative bottle of Talon’s Afterglow, Blackberry and Cabernet wines, with all proceeds donated to the survivor’s picnic. Donations can be made in advance by clicking here.

Tickets to the event are $12 in advance and can be purchased online by clicking here. Food and wine are an additional charge. Tickets at the door are $15 in a payment of cash, credit card or check. Attendees are encouraged to bring lawn chairs or blankets.
