Alumni Association Bestows Distinguished Service and Young Alumni Awards

LEXINGTON, Ky. (June 26, 2012) ― The UK Alumni Association Distinguished Service Awards are presented annually to honor and recognize those who have provided extraordinary service to the university and the association. The 2012 recipients were honored on June 15 during the UK Alumni Association Board of Directors Summer Workshop in Lexington.

The 2012 recipients are:

David W. Moseley is a Life Member of the UK Alumni Association and has been involved with the Daviess County UK Alumni Club since 1983. He served as president of the club from 1987 to 1989. During his tenure with the association, he has served in a variety of leadership positions, including as vice chairman of the Membership, Group Development and Club Development Committees and chairman of the Group Development Committee. He is now serving in his fourth term on the UK Alumni Association Board of Directors where he is a member of the Executive Committee and chairman of the Club Development Committee.     

A true advocate for the University of Kentucky, Moseley has served as the Alumni Library Campaign team leader. He also supports the K Fund, Wildcat Society and Gatton College of Business and Economics.

Moseley is currently vice president of southern and midwest markets for Texas Gas Transmission LLC. He has served on a variety of civic boards, including the Owensboro Public Schools Foundation for Excellence and the Cliff Hagan Boys and Girls Club in Owensboro. He is a 1976 graduate of UK with a degree in accounting. He and his wife, Anne Martin Moseley, have twin daughters, Sarah and Addie.

Rick Parsons is a multi-term board member of the Fayette County UK Alumni Club, a Life Member of the UK Alumni Association and a UK Fellow. Parsons is very active in his local club where he organizes and promotes events and fundraising initiatives. With his effort, the club has grown in both scholarship endowment funds and the number of active members. He plays an integral role in club activities such as athletic ticket sales and distribution, the Scholarship Golf Tournament, annual meetings and the Great Teacher Awards program stipend. Parsons is well known for his willingness to help accomplish club goals.

Proving his dedication to UK, Parsons has played a vital role in the club’s ability to award annual scholarships to local high school seniors to attend UK. His fundraising and organizing skills have helped with the club’s scholarship endowment.

Parsons is president of The Financialist LLC in Lexington. He is active in the local bowling association and serves on the YMCA Board of Directors in the Beaumont area. He is a graduate of Sullivan University. He and his wife, Tonya, reside in Lexington.       

David Ratterman is a Life Member of the UK Alumni Association, and has been active in the Greater Louisville UK Alumni Club for the past 25 years. He has served three terms on the UK Alumni Association Board of Directors, and has participated in a variety of leadership positions with the association, most notably championing the goal of diversity. He has chaired the Diversity/Group Development, Communications and Great Teacher/Scholarships committees. He currently is chairman of the Nominating for Board Committee and is serving on the Diversity Task Force.

Ratterman has been an active member of the University of Kentucky Advocacy Network since the group’s inception. He has been involved with student recruitment, special events and diversity activities all while serving on the Greater Louisville UK Alumni Club Board of Directors. Additionally, he is a UK Fellow.
 

An accomplished construction law attorney, he is a partner with Stites and Harbison PLLC. He serves on a variety of professional committees and organizations, including as secretary and general counsel to the American Institute of Steel Construction. He is also a retired U.S. Navy commander, and a member of the Louisville Rotary Club and the Cathedral of the Assumption.  Ratterman received a bachelor’s degree from UK in mechanical engineering in 1968 and did graduate work at UK in 1970. He also holds degrees from the University of Louisville and the University of Dayton.     

Adele Pinto Ryan is a Life Member of the UK Alumni Association and a member of the association’s board of directors. She has served on the Membership Committee and as vice chairwoman of the Club Development Committee and chairwoman of the Communications, Executive and Nominating for Board Committees. Ryan is actively involved with the Greater Louisville UK Alumni Club having served as past vice president and past treasurer. She was also past president and past vice president of the Greater Louisville Young Alumni Group.

Ryan is well known for displaying her love of UK. While she was employed at 84WHAS Radio in Louisville, she could frequently be heard on air sharing her passion for the university. Ryan has served on several community boards and committees including as vice regent of the Thomas Edison House Museum Board. She is also an active participant in other civic organizations, including, the Kentucky Opera, American Cancer Society, Louisville Zoo, March of Dimes and Fund for the Arts.

Ryan graduated with honors from UK with a bachelor’s degree in communications in 1988. She has served as an account manager for Big Blue Sports Marketing/IMG College at the UK on Main office in Louisville. She and her husband, John, currently reside in Louisville and have twin boys.     

The Joseph T. Burch Young Alumni Award is named in honor of Joseph Burch, a longtime UK administrator who spent the better part of his life in service to University of Kentucky students.

The 2012 recipient is:

Quintissa S. Peake is a member of the UK Alumni Association Board of Directors and is currently serving on the Membership Committee. She is also an active member of the Fayette County UK Alumni Club and the Lyman T. Johnson African-American UK Alumni Constituent Group. She frequently assists in coordinating activities, events and fundraisers for both groups. She has helped organize the Lyman T. Johnson Awards Banquet, the Fayette County UK Alumni Club Golf Outing and Hometown Hero events. She is currently president of the Fayette County UK Young Alumni Group. Peake graduated from the University of Kentucky in 2004 with a bachelor’s degree in telecommunications.

Peake was born with sickle cell anemia. Through her experiences, she has become an advocate for blood donation. She has been featured in a commercial for the Kentucky Blood Center and participates in sickle cell and blood donation advocacy efforts, including the annual Stomp Out Sickle Cell walk in Louisville, the Big Blue Slam and has organized several blood drives.

Despite her health challenges, she is a positive person who never fails to display her passion for UK and enthusiastically helps out with alumni activities. She currently works for the Kentucky Blood Center as a support specialist, assisting in a collaborative effort to encourage blood donations. She also works for the Kentucky Blood Story and shares her personal experience about the importance of blood donation around the Central Kentucky area.
