Message to Students: Register to Be Vaccinated
LEXINGTON, Ky. (March 15, 2021) — University of Kentucky Vice President for Student Success Kirsten Turner emailed UK students Friday, March 12, encouraging them to register now for the opportunity to receive a COVID-19 vaccination later this year. The message is below.
Dear Students,
Last night, President Biden announced to the country that he would direct every state “to make all adults, people 18 and over, eligible to be vaccinated no later than May 1.”
Supplies of COVID-19 vaccines and a number of other factors, of course, will determine how quickly everyone is vaccinated after that date.
We want to be prepared for that moment. We want to include you, our students, in that process.
We don’t know when we will be able to move forward with more student vaccinations. But we’re gearing up to be ready. And we want to ensure that you are ready, too.
If you are interested in receiving a COVID-19 vaccine from the University of Kentucky, please take the following steps:
- Submit your request at ukvaccine.org. It only takes a few minutes. You will be asked to provide basic health information that we use, under state guidelines, to prioritize vaccinations.
- When completing your request, use your UK email address.
- Upon submitting, you will receive a confirmation of receipt.
- When the state directs us, and as supplies allow, you will receive an email at a later date with a unique access code to schedule your appointment. This access code never expires and cannot be shared with anyone else.
- If the available dates don’t work with your schedule, keep checking back as more appointments are added based on vaccine supply from the state.
- For any questions related to vaccines, please reach out to vaccine@uky.edu
UK and UK HealthCare — in partnership with UK Athletics, our Emergency Operations Center, our Office of Student Success and hundreds of volunteers — have administered nearly 130,000 doses of COVID-19 vaccines over the last few months.
Many of you have participated in this process, volunteering your time to help ensure the health of others on our campus and in our Commonwealth.
Because of these efforts, and the collective will and commitment of our community, we are the largest vaccination clinic in the state, vaccinating on most days more than 4,000 people.
We want to be prepared to do more. The vaccine is one more way you can ensure your health and safety, as well as the health and safety of friends, family, loved ones and the larger community.
Thank you for all you already have been doing to keep yourselves and our community safe during such challenging times.
We look forward to celebrating Commencement in May with our graduating students and to a time, one that we believe is fast approaching, where we can be together more often.
Kirsten Turner
Vice President for Student Success
