Lewis Honors’ Laura Bryan named to APA Board of Educational Affairs

LEXINGTON, Ky. (May 19, 2023) — Laura Bryan, the T.G. Lewis Faculty Scholar in Organizational Behavior, an endowed position in the University of Kentucky Lewis Honors College, was recently elected to serve on the American Psychological Association (APA) Board of Educational Affairs (BEA).

APA is the leading scientific and professional psychology organization in the U.S. with over 146,000 members. The APA BEA is responsible for recommending educational policy to the APA Board of Directors and Council of Representatives, including precollege and undergraduate education, as well as graduate and continuing education.

This national recognition acknowledges Bryan’s 30 plus years in higher education with a specific focus on psychology education. 

As a teacher-scholar-practitioner, Bryan consults with leaders and organizations to cultivate positive, inclusive workplaces and is dedicated to a student-centered pedagogy for helping students understand their place in the world of work. She authored “Shaping Work-Life Culture in Higher Education: A Guide for Academic Leaders,” co-authored “EEO Law and Personnel Practices,” and co-edited “Using I-O Psychology for the Greater Good: Helping Those Who Help Others.” Her work on the history of industrial and organizational (I-O) psychology has been published in journals such as the Journal of Applied Psychology and as book chapters, and she edited both editions of Historical Perspectives in Industrial-Organizational Psychology (2017; 2021; Routledge) and is currently preparing Key Thinkers in Industrial and Organizational Psychology (Routledge).

Bryan has a track record of securing funding for faculty, staff and student success including from the National Science Foundation, the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation and the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation. She is a U.S. Fulbright Scholar and a fellow of the APA, the Association for Psychological Science and the Society for Industrial-Organizational Psychology (SIOP). Bryan is past-president of the College and University Work-Life-Family Association, past elected officer of the SIOP executive board, and formerly the director of Work-Life at the University of Kentucky.

She earned a Ph.D. in industrial and organizational psychology from The Ohio State University, where she also earned a master’s and bachelor’s degree in psychology. She is also the former interim dean of the UK Lewis Honors College.
