LEXINGTON, Ky. (Oct. 10, 2024) — The University of Kentucky Opera Theatre kicks off its 2024-25 season with W.A. Mozart’s remarkable comedic opera, “Le Nozze di Figaro,” (“The Marriage of Figaro”) Oct. 18-20 at the Lexington Opera House.

Centered around Figaro and Susanna’s wedding day, the captivating narrative unfolds with unexpected twists, mistaken identities and some of the most enchanting music in opera. Since its premiere in Vienna in 1786, “Le Nozze di Figaro” has consistently ranked as one of the most frequently performed operas, captivating audiences with its enduring charm and musical brilliance.

UK Opera Theatre alumnus Christopher Burchett directs the production.

“The University Opera Theatre has become world renowned as a source for well-trained young singers,” Burchett said. “Some of the reasons for this are the vocal and acting talent of the singers recruited to the university, the knowledge and dedication of the faculty at UK, and the ever-growing production value of the operas performed.  Our production of Mozart’s ‘Le Nozze di Figaro’ will be a perfect blend of everything audiences have come to love about opera in the past and some of the best young singing actors the country has to offer. This is not to be missed.”

Sung in Italian with English supertitles, “Le Nozze di Figaro” runs three hours with an intermission. Performances are 7:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 18; 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 19; and 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 20. Tickets are on sale now at ticketmaster.com, or by calling the Central Bank Center ticket office at 859-233-3535 from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Tuesday-Friday.
