‘The power of our community’

This is the University of Kentucky’s longer form institutional commercial for the 2024-25 academic year. In this spot, hear the voices of students, graduates, faculty and staff who work every day (and night) to teach, discover, serve, learn and care. Their efforts to advance Kentucky reflect the mission of the university. LEXINGTON, Ky. (Jan. 13, 2025) — As the spring semester begins at the University of Kentucky, University of Kentucky President Eli Capilouto shares a message with the entire campus about the institution’s role as Kentucky's university.

****

Campus Community,

Welcome back to campus and to the start of a new and exciting semester.

Each spring, as our campus comes alive and hums with purpose, I am reinvigorated by the role we play as Kentucky’s university.

This is more than a place of learning — it’s a vibrant community bound by shared purpose and collective ambition.

Across our campus and throughout the Commonwealth, we see the impact of this collaboration in the essential care we provide, the discoveries we pursue and the lives we transform through it all.

This February, on Founder’s Day, we will mark UK’s 160th birthday.

As we celebrate all that we have accomplished as Kentucky’s university, this video and the stories of the people you hear in this spot remind me of an enduring truth: the power of a community lies not in the brilliance of one, but in the collaboration of many. This is the heart of what makes our university so special, and I hope you take a minute to watch what you make possible.

Thank you for your passion and dedication; for your unending belief in what we can achieve as the University of, for and with Kentucky.

I look forward to another remarkable semester as we advance Kentucky together.

Sincerely,
Eli Capilouto

As the state’s flagship, land-grant institution, the University of Kentucky exists to advance the Commonwealth. We do that by preparing the next generation of leaders — placing students at the heart of everything we do — and transforming the lives of Kentuckians through education, research and creative work, service and health care. We pride ourselves on being a catalyst for breakthroughs and a force for healing, a place where ingenuity unfolds. It's all made possible by our people — visionaries, disruptors and pioneers — who make up 200 academic programs, a $476.5 million research and development enterprise and a world-class medical center, all on one campus.
