Lt. Gov. Coleman to speak at 2nd annual Lewis Honors College Leadership Conference

LEXINGTON, Ky. (Feb. 6, 2025) — Kentucky Lt. Gov. Jacqueline Coleman is the keynote speaker for the University of Kentucky’s second annual Lewis Honors College Leadership Conference, Feb. 25 at Lewis Honors College.

The conference is jointly presented by the Lewis Honors College and the 2028 Otis A. Singletary Scholar cohort.

Coleman, a former public school teacher, has been a lifelong advocate for public education, mental health and leadership. In 2013 she launched the nonprofit organization Lead Kentucky, which has made a profound impact empowering women across the Commonwealth to pursue leadership positions.

The conference is open to UK students and will feature presentations from influential mentors and fellow students in an environment designed to foster leadership, personal development and networking opportunities.

The 2024 conference drew approximately 100 attendees.

This year’s lineup of workshop leaders and panelists, selected by the 2028 Singletary Scholars, embody the Lewis Honors College mission to “better the Commonwealth of Kentucky and the world by helping students to explore their purpose, develop intellectually, and lead with integrity.”

The conference will feature a range of dynamic workshops led by experts who exemplify the core values of the college. These sessions aim to provide attendees with invaluable leadership insights and opportunities for networking and personal growth.

In addition to the workshops, conference attendees will have the opportunity to be involved in a panel discussion on leadership. Lewis Honors College Lecturer Sherelle Roberts will moderate the panel, which includes:

  • Amber Sergent, Ph.D., Kentucky Educational Development Corp. and 2022 Kentucky High School Teacher of the Year
  • Scottie Day, M.D. Kentucky Children’s Hospital physician-in-chief, UK HealthCare
  • Laci Scarboro, Clark County Community Services executive director
  • Jim Sharpe, Infineon Technologies director of digital IP
  • Paula O. Lockhart, Kentucky Governor’s School for the Arts associate director

As the state’s flagship, land-grant institution, the University of Kentucky exists to advance the Commonwealth. We do that by preparing the next generation of leaders — placing students at the heart of everything we do — and transforming the lives of Kentuckians through education, research and creative work, service and health care. We pride ourselves on being a catalyst for breakthroughs and a force for healing, a place where ingenuity unfolds. It's all made possible by our people — visionaries, disruptors and pioneers — who make up 200 academic programs, a $476.5 million research and development enterprise and a world-class medical center, all on one campus.
