Introducing SafeZone: UK's new campus safety app

LEXINGTON, Ky. (July 10, 2025) — The University of Kentucky Police Department is continually updating and investing in safety initiatives and resources on campus. Your safety — and the safety of those you serve — is our top priority.
Over the past year, we’ve listened to students, parents and employees on what matters most to you, assessed our systems and reviewed how we can empower community members with new tools.
We’re excited to launch SafeZone — an app that empowers you to take proactive steps for your personal safety and gives UKPD enhanced response capabilities.
The SafeZone app will give you:
-
Easy access to UKPD and emergency assistance when you need it.
-
The capability to share your location with a UKPD officer when walking alone.
-
An anonymous way to report suspicious activity to UKPD.
-
UK Alerts via text, phone call and app notifications, if requested.
As a part of this new initiative, we are integrating our UK Alert notification system with SafeZone.
Important: UK faculty and staff must now download the SafeZone app and register their phone number to continue receiving UK Alerts via text and phone call.
More information on the SafeZone app can be found at go.uky.edu/SafeZoneApp.
Questions can be directed to UKPD’s Division of Crisis Management and Preparedness by emailing cmp@uky.edu.
As the state’s flagship, land-grant institution, the University of Kentucky exists to advance the Commonwealth. We do that by preparing the next generation of leaders — placing students at the heart of everything we do — and transforming the lives of Kentuckians through education, research and creative work, service and health care. We pride ourselves on being a catalyst for breakthroughs and a force for healing, a place where ingenuity unfolds. It's all made possible by our people — visionaries, disruptors and pioneers — who make up 200 academic programs, a $476.5 million research and development enterprise and a world-class medical center, all on one campus.
