UK to light up green for Mental Health Awareness Month
LEXINGTON, Ky. (April 30, 2026) — The University of Kentucky will join organizations across the country in lighting up green May 1 in recognition of Mental Health Awareness Month.
Mental Health America began recognizing Mental Health Awareness Month in 1949. Mental health disorders affect millions of Americans, leading to the establishment of the month to raise awareness, educate the public about mental health conditions and reduce the continuous stigma that surrounds these conditions.
By joining this movement, UK aims to show support and remind the campus community how much mental health matters and that you are not alone in facing these challenges.
The theme Mental Health America has created this year is “More Good Days, Together.” This is a reflection on their mission of helping people to have more good days by meeting them where they are, supporting them as whole people and understanding that “good” is defined by their unique experience and goals. As the state’s flagship, land-grant institution, the University of Kentucky exists to advance the Commonwealth. We do that by preparing the next generation of leaders — placing students at the heart of everything we do — and transforming the lives of Kentuckians through education, research and creative work, service and healthcare. We pride ourselves on being a catalyst for breakthroughs and a force for healing, a place where ingenuity unfolds. It's all made possible by our people — visionaries, disruptors and pioneers — who make up 200 academic programs, a $1.02 billion research and development enterprise and a world-class medical center, all on one campus.
