Play it safe at Safe Kids Day on Aug. 22
LEXINGTON, Ky. (Aug. 3, 2026) — Golisano Children’s Hospital, Safe Kids Fayette County and local community partners are teaming up once again for Safe Kids Day, a fun, educational event focused on preventing childhood injuries. This free event will take place from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 22, at Cardinal Valley Park, 2077 Cambridge Drive, Lexington.
“These events are a great opportunity to meet families where they are and talk about everyday ways to prevent injuries,” said Kelly Grayson, coordinator for Safe Kids Fayette County. “Keeping kids safe is a shared responsibility, and when families, schools and communities work together, we can help protect children while they enjoy being kids.”
Families who attend can take part in hands-on safety activities and demonstrations, including:

Bike helmet fittings and bike safety, including free bike helmets while supplies last

Safe gun storage, including free gun locks while supplies last

Child passenger safety and free car seat checks

Pedestrian safety

Water safety, including how to properly fit and use U.S. Coast Guard-approved personal flotation devices

Personal safety, including how to get a child ID card in case of emergencies
There will also be plenty of fun for children, including snacks, games and giveaways. This event is free and open to the public and will be held rain or shine. For more information, call Safe Kids Fayette County at 859-323-1153.
Preventable injuries are the leading cause of death for children and adolescents in the U.S. In 2023, 377 children died as pedestrians in motor vehicle crashes, and 595 children died as passengers. The number is even higher for older children.
