Jones-London of NIH to Address Diversity in STEM Fields

LEXINGTON, Ky. (Oct. 10, 2017) —  The University of Kentucky Office for Institutional Diversity is pleased to announce Michelle Jones-London will be speaking on campus 10 a.m. today (Tuesday), Oct. 10, in the William T. Young Library UK Athletics Auditorium.

Jones-London serves as chief of the Office of Programs to Enhance Neuroscience Workforce Diversity (OPEN-WD) and chairs the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke (NINDS) Diversity Working Group at the National Institutes of Health (NIH). Through her position with NINDS, she plays a critical role in guiding the institute’s diversity efforts. Jones-London directs the diversity training and workforce development programs at NINDS, which include diversity and re-entry supplements, predoctoral fellowships to promote diversity in health-related research, career development awards to promote diversity, and diversity research education grants. She also provides oversight for the institute’s diversity outreach initiatives at several other national scientific conferences.

Her research interests have focused on understanding monoaminergic neurotransmitter regulation and mechanisms of behavioral psychopharmacology in animal models of disorders such as ADHD, Tourette syndrome and depression.

Jones-London will speak with UK faculty, staff and students on increasing student diversity in the science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) fields.
