It's Employee Parking Permit Renewal Time

LEXINGTON, Ky. (Feb. 1, 2010) Beginning Feb. 1, University of Kentucky Parking & Transportation Services (PTS) will accept employee and retiree parking permit renewal applications for permits that expire March 31, 2010. University of Kentucky and Bluegrass Community and Technical College (BCTC) employees are encouraged to renew their permits online at www.uky.edu/Parking, by means of campus mail, or in person at Parking and Transportation Services, 721 Press Ave. (Parking Structure #6) or 110 Transcript Ave. (UK HealthCare Parking Garage).

Due to ongoing changes in credit card compliance standards, Veterans Affairs Medical Center employees and UK retirees may only apply for permits by mail or in person. These groups will receive application materials at work and via mail, respectively.

Information packets regarding permit renewal were mailed to all campus departments during the last week of January. Employees applying prior to March 1 should receive the new permit at the address of their choice on or before March 31, 2010. Permits ordered after that date also will be mailed to either campus or home addresses; the online application will be available until March 23, 2010.

Employee permits will remain the same price for the 2010-2011 year ($31 per month, or $372 a year). Retiree permit fees also will remain the same price at $5 per month, or $60 per year. Retirees who retired from the University prior to July 1, 1995, are eligible for permits at no cost.

All outstanding parking citations must be paid before a permit application is accepted. Citations may be paid online at www.uky.edu/Parking.

Eligible UK and BCTC employees may payroll deduct permit fees on a pre-tax basis. Pre-tax registration forms must be completed each year and can be completed online during the permit application process. For those who apply by mail or forget to apply for pre-tax deduction during the online application process, the form is available at www.uky.edu/Parking. UK Retirees and VA employees are not eligible for the pre-tax exemption.

To complete an application, applicants should have on hand their home address, license plate number of their primary vehicle, and a MasterCard or Visa if not eligible for payroll deduction. UK employees must have their link blue login and password; BCTC employees must use their KCTCS username and password.

Once again, PTS will control some student lots for permits during the summer months. These lots will be controlled for any valid UK permit. Summer permits will be available for students, and parking for special events should be arranged with the PTS Special Event Coordinator. More information about summer parking policies can be found at http://www.uky.edu/Parking/parking-breaks-summer.html.
