LEXINGTON, Ky. (June 17, 2011) — The University of Kentucky Staff Senate is asking UK staff members who will not use all their vacation time by June 30, to donate to fellow staff in need. UK's Shared Leave Pool Committee, which includes Staff Senate members, will have a table set up across from the Big Blue Deli on the third floor of Kentucky Clinic from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 21 and Friday, June 24. Committee members will be on hand to assist UK staff members who want to make donations to the Shared Leave Pool.
Through the end of June, UK staff may donate accrued vacation time to the UK Staff Shared Leave Pool. This program enables UK employees to help fellow staff members who have exhausted paid leave due to their own health problems — or under new guidelines effective July 1 — those of ailing loved ones (spouse, child or sponsored dependent). Donated time may be designated specifically for employee pool or family pool use.
Regular University of Kentucky staff employees with a 0.5 FTE (50% assignment) or greater can donate up to five days of vacation leave per year to the pool and donations must be in full-day vacation leave units. Donations to the Shared Leave Pool are irrevocable and cannot be designated for use by a particular person.
