University Press of Kentucky Welcomes University of Pikeville to Consortium
LEXINGTON, Ky. (Sept. 14, 2021) — The University of Pikeville is the newest member of the consortium of institutions represented by the University Press of Kentucky (UPK). The consortium includes all of Kentucky’s state universities, seven of its private colleges and two historical societies. Each constituent institution is represented on a statewide editorial board, which supervises the UPK imprint.
“As the scholarly publisher for the Commonwealth of Kentucky, we are thrilled to have Appalachia’s leading higher education institution represented on our editorial board,” said Ashley Runyon, director of UPK. “Our ongoing commitment to highlighting Appalachia makes UPIKE a natural fit for our consortium, and our entire catalog will only be improved by the valuable perspectives of scholars living and working in the region.”
Since the formation of the consortium in 1969, the press has meaningfully served readers, students, and scholars in Kentucky and Appalachia with publications of special regional interest. The press has more than 60 titles, both fiction and nonfiction, on Appalachia, as well as two series dedicated to the region: Appalachian Futures and Place Matters: New Directions in Appalachian Studies.
