Bastos-Carvalho Receives Poster Award at European Association for Vision and Eye Research
LEXINGTON, Ky. (Oct. 18, 2013) − Ana Bastos-Carvalho, postdoctoral scholar in the Ambati Lab at the University of Kentucky College of Medicine's Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences, was recently awarded for her poster presentation at the European Association for Vision and Eye Research meeting in Nice, France.
EVER, an international non-profit organization, is the leading ophthalmological research association in Europe which covers all areas of ophthalmology and the visual sciences.
Previous work from the Ambati Lab, recently published in the journal Nature, implicated Alu RNA molecules as a causative factor for the dry form of AMD, a disease responsible for most cases of blindness in the elderly. The work presented in the awarded poster focused on the role of these Alu elements in the progression of dry AMD.
