UK Appalachian Center announces 2023 funding opportunities

LEXINGTON, Ky. (Nov. 22, 2022) — Applications are now open for awards and funding opportunities offered by the University of Kentucky Appalachian Center and Appalachian Studies program. These opportunities are open to any student participating in work and research in the Appalachian region. 

Graduate students are eligible to apply for the James S. Brown Graduate Student Award for Research on Appalachia and both undergraduate and graduate students are eligible to apply for the Eller & Billings Student Research Award. These awards support student research in/relating to the Appalachian region. 

Applications for the 2023 James S. Brown Graduate Student Award for Research on Appalachia and the 2023 UK Appalachian Center Eller & Billings Student Research Award must be submitted by Feb. 17, 2023. 

Applications for the James S. Brown Award that are not funded will automatically be entered into the competition for the 2023 UK Appalachian Center Eller & Billings Student Research Award. 

Student travel funding and faculty/staff travel funding is also now available for individuals presenting Appalachian-related work at conferences. Funding for up to $250 is available for reimbursement and will be awarded on a first-come first-serve rolling basis.
