LEXINGTON, Ky. (Feb. 12, 2019) Less than two weeks remain to apply for the 2019 Edward T. Breathitt Undergraduate Lectureship in the Humanities presented by the University of Kentucky Gaines Center for the Humanities.

Established to honor an eminent Kentuckian and an outstanding UK alumnus whose interest in higher education and the humanities was exceptional, this lectureship is awarded to an undergraduate whose qualities of mind and spirit have been expressed eloquently on one or more of the basic concerns of the humanities.

Any university faculty member may nominate a qualified student from any discipline, and students may self-nominate for the Breathitt Lectureship.

Each candidate will be required to submit a two-page prospectus of their lecture in the humanities, the topic being of the individual's choice, as well as a brief bibliography. A personal résumé and two faculty references will also be required of applicants. All UK undergraduate students are eligible to apply for the Breathitt Lectureship. The prospectus must be based on completed research and written work associated with a credit-bearing course.

The Edward T. Breathitt Undergraduate Lecturer receives a special award and an honorarium of $500. Find the application online at www.uky.edu/gainescenter/breathitt-lecture. Deadline for applications is 4 p.m. Friday, Feb. 22.

Applicants will be notified of the status of their applications by March 1, 2019, allowing the selected lecturer at least a month for the preparation and practice of the presentation. The presentation will take place 7 p.m. Thursday, April 4, in UK William T. Young Library Auditorium.
