The Ins and Outs of the Office for Institutional Diversity

The Office for Institutional Diversity commits every day to diversity and inclusion at the University of Kentucky! Their main offices offer a variety of distinct services for your individual needs. 

  • Center for Academic Resources and Enrichment Services –  CARES counselors can help students with academic planning; free individual tutoring and study groups; assistance with study skills through one-on-one meetings or workshops; and different programs to help with specific issues at each academic level.
  • Center for Graduate and Professional Diversity Initiatives - The Center for Graduate and Professional Diversity Initiatives focuses on recruiting diverse graduate and professional students in UK's six health colleges and retaining diverse graduate and professional students in all 19 colleges. This center helps to create an inclusive campus environment where all students can succeed. 
  • The Kentucky - West Virginia Louis Stokes Alliance for Minority Participation (KY-WV LSAMP) - KY-WV LSAMP is a group of colleges and universities working together to create, enhance and expand programs designed to broaden participation and increase the quality and quantity of students from underrepresented populations who receive degrees in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) disciplines. LSAMP offers services to help make the transition from high school to college, hands-on research experience activities, mentoring, and help with the transition from graduate and postgraduate to a career path.
  • Martin Luther King Center - The MLK Center seeks to empower UK students from all communities to improve their college experience by increasing access to academic, civic leadership, and cultural exchange opportunities. The center offers a variety of services, including cultural competencies, campus events, my brother’s keeper, the sister circle, a grant program, a scholar-in-residence program, a diversity leadership retreat, and an ambassadorship for diversity. 
  • Office of LGBTQ* Resources - LGBTQ* Resources is University of Kentucky's central hub for accessing information, groups, and services related to diverse sexual orientations and gender identities. It offers a variety of student groups to join, host events throughout the semester on campus, and a variety of other services.
  • Student Support Services – Student Support Services is here to help students become the next success story. The SSS Center is designed to work with students who are first generation, low income, or have a documented disability. It offers academic programs, employment programs, career programs, graduate programs, mentoring, social culture programs, and financial assistance.
