LEXINGTON, Ky. (March 1, 2011) – The Student Activities Board is proud to announce that My Morning Jacket will be the 2011 Spring Concert! The concert will be at 7 p.m. on Sunday, April 17 in Memorial Coliseum. This concert is sponsored by the Student Activities Board (SAB) and is part of SAB’s annual Little Kentucky Derby Festival.

Formed in 1998 in Louisville, My Morning Jacket (MMJ) is one of today’s most beloved rock bands in the country. Known for their stage presence and hard-rocking show, MMJ has a loyal fan base that travels across the country to see them in concert. The band’s 2008 album Evil Urges was nominated for a Grammy in the Best Alternative Rock Album category.

“I’ve heard My Morning Jacket puts on an amazing live show,” said Chris Duncan, director of SAB’s Concert Committee. “I’m really excited to see the Kentucky natives perform at the UK.”

My Morning Jacket is to headline and perform in a number of festivals this summer including Mountain Jam, Hangout Music Festival, High Sierra Music Festival, Wakarusa Festival and Bonnaroo. The band’s sixth studio album is anticipated to release this spring. MMJ is said to be “the best live band in the world” by LA Weekly.

UK student and SAB Traditions Director Jaclyn Hawkins said, “MMJ is very theatrical in their shows which add an extra element in their performance that sets them apart from other bands. Jim James has an amazing voice and the song lyrics have the ability to be heartbreakingly beautiful or make you want to dance.”
