LEXINGTON, Ky. (March 6, 2017) — University of Kentucky Student Government Association (SGA) and the James W. Stuckert Career Center are teaming up to provide students a better chance at a promising career with the new Wildcat Wardrobe career closet.
"Wildcat Wardrobe is aimed at alleviating the financial burden placed on students to purchase professional clothing for job interviews, internships or even full-time job opportunities after graduation," said Student Body President Rowan Reid. "After seeing other Southeastern Conference student governments implementing these programs, we felt our students deserved better resources than we were previously offering."
Join UK SGA and the Stuckert Career Center in the new home of the career closet from 1-3 p.m., March 8, in Blazer Dining Room 249 to celebrate the grand opening of Wildcat Wardrobe. Free food and resume evaluations will be available for all students.
"I am excited about Wildcat Wardrobe because we are college students living on a budget, and we can't afford to buy professional clothing anytime we want," said Blair Johnson, Wildcat Wardrobe project manager and SGA communications director. "I think this will help everyone's professional career after college. People from all backgrounds are welcome and the whole campus can get involved!”
Faculty, staff, students and members of the community are all welcome and encouraged to donate clean, gently worn professional clothing to the closet.
“The Career Center has been thrilled to work alongside SGA on the planning and upcoming launch of Wildcat Wardrobe," said Rachel Hoover, assistant director of the Stuckert Career Center. "Wildcat Wardrobe gives UK’s faculty and staff a great opportunity to rally together in support our students’ professional lives in multiple ways — through donating professional clothing and promoting this service to students.”
The Wildcat Wardrobe will be open on a drop-in basis every Wednesday from 1-3 p.m. For those students who may need accommodations regarding the timeframe, email email@example.com to schedule an appointment. Each student is allotted up to one outfit per visit, or three articles of clothing. Depending upon the Wildcat Wardrobe’s available inventory and other factors, students may encounter wait periods or limits on the number of visits allowed in a semester.
