Phi Kappa Phi Scholarship Deadline Is March 9

LEXINGTON, Ky. (March 7, 2012) − The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi's ongoing commitment to excellence is reflected in its scholarships and awards programs. Nearly $800,000 is awarded nationally each year to outstanding students, Phi Kappa Phi members and chapters.

"The University of Kentucky Chapter of Phi Kappa Phi (PKP) is pleased to announce a series of grants available through the Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society," said Frank Ettensohn, professor of earth and environmental sciences and director of UK's Honors Program, who serves as scholarship committee chair for PKP on the UK campus.

The following opportunities are available for students and faculty at UK.  Interested individuals should visit the Phi Kappa Phi website for information.  Go to Awards at PhiKappaPhi.org.

  • Fellowship Program.  Each year, the Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi awards 51 fellowships of $5,000 each and three at $15,000 each to members entering the first year of graduate or professional study.  Each Phi Kappa Phi chapter may select one candidate from among its local applicants to compete for the society-wide awards.  Applications are due no later than March 9, 2012 to the UK Chapter, 224 Funkhouser Bldg.  Each chapter may send only one nominee forward.
  • Love of Learning Award.  These awards help fund post-baccalaureate studies and career development opportunities including graduate and professional studies, doctoral dissertations, continuing education, and travel related to teaching or studies.  Students may apply directly to Phi Kappa Phi for these awards.  One hundred forty awards of $500 are awarded each year.
  • Study Abroad Grant.  These grants are designed to help support undergraduates as they seek knowledge and experience in their academic fields by studying abroad.  Students may apply directly to Phi Kappa Phi for these awards.  Fifty $1,000 grants are awarded each year.

Applicants must be active Phi Kappa Phi members (with dues paid) or those who have accepted membership by June 30, 2012.

Since being chartered in 2009, the UK Chapter of PKP already has seen two of its student members earn scholarship awards from the national office.
