Rolling Out the Big Blue Carpet for the Oscars

LEXINGTON, Ky. (March 4, 2010) - The Oscars have been shined and it’s time to give them to the biggest names in Hollywood! Join the Student Activities Board (SAB) in the Student Center Cat’s Den at 7 p.m. Sunday, March 7, for an Oscar Party!

This is the 82nd annual Academy Awards and, as always, it will recognize excellence of professionals in the film industry, including directors, actors and writers. The iconic Oscar statue was officially named in 1939, and as of 2009 a total of 2,744 Oscars have been given. Leading the nominations this year are "Avatar," "The Hurt Locker," "Inglorious Bastards," "Up in the Air" and "Precious."

The Academy Awards are also just as well-known for the celebrity and fashion presence on the red carpet. Known to shake up the red carpet in different ways have been celebrities like Cher, Kate Winslet and Angelina Jolie. It’s exciting to see who will end up on the best and worst dressed lists of the night.

“Gather your friends, enjoy free food and be part of one of the biggest nights in Hollywood right here in Lexington,” says Brad Elliott, director of cinema for SAB. The night is casual dress and will have free food, T-shirts and two Cinemark movie tickets for the person who correctly guesses the most winners.

Beginning at 7 p.m., join SAB to watch the best (and worst) of the red carpet enter the show. The awards ceremony begins at 8 p.m. and runs until midnight. Steve Martin and Alex Baldwin are serving as co-hosts so there is sure to be some exciting moments.

The pool, foosball and ping pong tables in the Cat’s Den will be available during the party. Also, don’t forget to swipe and get your swag on -- this is a TallyCats event! Come celebrate a night with the biggest stars and SAB!
