Welcome to the World of Jenks

LEXINGTON, Ky. (March 8, 2011) – Leave with a story you never saw coming when MTV’s Andrew Jenks speaks at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, March 9 at the Worsham Theater, located in the Student Center on UK’s campus. This event is free and sponsored by the Student Activities Board (SAB).

Jenks is a 24-year-old documentary filmmaker. He recently gained national fame with his MTV show “World of Jenks”. Jenks made his first documentary at the age of 19 when he moved into a nursing home for a month and lived the life of a patient. Since then, he has embedded himself in the worlds of people from all walks of life.

On his show, Jenks has followed a number of people including: a person with autism, a MMA fighter, a homeless woman and a rapper. Jenks uses clips from his MTV show to motivate young people to broaden their horizons and knock down the stereotypes of those who may appear foreign to them.

“Andrew Jenks has become a sensation on MTV and I am so excited for him to come to campus,” said Jill Baranowski, director of the SAB Engaging Issues Committee. “He has experienced so much in such a short period of time and really takes the ‘walk a mile in someone else’s shoes’ saying to heart.”

The event will conclude with a question and answer session.

Students and general public are encouraged to attend this free event.

The Student Activities Board (SAB) brings more than 100 events to the University of Kentucky annually that enhance the college experience by providing students, other members of the campus and the Lexington community with entertaining, educational or enriching programs that are reflective of contemporary issues and trends.
