UK Adventurers Hike Red River Gorge

LEXINGTON, Ky. (Oct. 30, 2013) — The University of Kentucky has hosted adventure trips since 2004.

While some trips are offered year after year, the trips vary with the expertise of the current graduate assistant.

Chase Clark, a first-year graduate assistant, is in charge of the trips this year and hopes to expand the schedule of the outdoor adventure trips over the next couple of years. Yearly ice and rock-climbing trips, as well as volunteer outings, are just a few of the events Clark would like to see.

Clark’s mission is to provide learning opportunities for students. By developing a curriculum for training student trip-leaders, he believes the adventure program will continue to grow.

On Nov. 3, the Outdoor Pursuits Program will attend a day hike at the Red River Gorge. The hike will include destinations like Haystack Rock, Courthouse Rock and the Double Arch. The cost of the trip is $10. Registration is open until 4 p.m. Friday, Nov. 1.

The weekend of Nov. 15-17, Outdoor Pursuits will take a trip to Stone Fort, one of the most popular bouldering destinations in the southeastern United States. The weekend getaway costs $65. Registration will remain open until 4 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 14.

For the last trip of the fall semester, Outdoor Pursuits will travel to southern Indiana to ski and snowboard. The trip is set for Dec. 7 and will cost $75 with rental gear, and $50 without. Registration is open until 4 p.m. Friday, Dec. 6.

No prior experience is necessary for the UK adventure trips.
