Unconventional Trio Sure to Please

LEXINGTON, Ky. (April 13, 2011) – What does “Jackass 3-D,” a French film and Spike Lee have in common? Well, if your answer is they are all featured in this week’s Late Night Film Series, you are correct. So, grab some popcorn and put on your squirrel shirt to check out this unconventional trio in action.

On Thursday, April 14, at 10 p.m., check out the showing of “Jackass 3-D” in Worsham Theater. In the movie “Jackass 3-D,” Johnny Knoxville and company return for the third installment of their TV show spin-off, where dangerous stunts and explicit public displays rule.

Check out the French film “Home” on Friday, April 15, at 8 p.m., in Worsham Theater. “Home” is a documentary narrated in English by actress Glenn Close. Award-winning photographer, Yann Arthus-Bertrand, directs this ode to planet Earth. The film is an aerial voyage over the Earth with footage from 54 countries. It captures the way in which the ecosystems are interconnected and work together to support life while highlighting the problems left by human indifference. The film covers issues ranging from the agricultural revolution to the ever-increasing human reliance on oil, urging viewers to preserve the Earth’s remaining resources.

Finally, at 10 p.m. Friday, April 15, check out the movie “School Daze.” The ever-obstinate Spike Lee does it again with another zany film where college life is taken for more than just a drunken party with exams and is put under a very critical microscope.  He takes a deeper look at all-black colleges and assesses the social divisions that exist therein.  He finds the socializers, the socially conscious and the floaters; he finds light skin and dark skin and a group that fits somewhere in between.  He does this through Dap, played by Laurence Fishburne, a student striving for togetherness who soon finds that this ideal is easier thought than executed.  This musical is sure to offer compelling points and provoke probing questions.

The Late Night Film is held every Thursday and Friday in Worsham Theater at 10 p.m. All Late Night Film Series movies and popcorn are free for students. The Late Night Film Series and its movies are sponsored by the Student Center Director’s Office.
