LEXINGTON, Ky. (Oct. 11, 2013) — The Common Reading Experience team welcomes to campus Kelsey Timmerman, author of “Where Am I Wearing?” at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 15, in the University of Kentucky Singletary Center for the Arts. A book signing will follow the lecture.

The author lecture is one of many events that connects the CRE to student life on campus. This free public lecture, sponsored by the Office of New Student and Parent Programs

“Where Am I Wearing?” is a global tour to the countries, factories and people that make today’s clothes. In the book, Timmerman travels the world in search of all the places his clothes are made. His first book highlights issues of globalization and its effect on the world’s economy. He encourages readers to look into where their clothes are made and think more deeply about items that are so often taken for granted.

Timmerman is a public speaker who has lectured on subjects such as travel and globalization across the nation. Timmerman has a passion for educating students and encourages them to think globally while acting locally. His writing has appeared in publications such as the Christian Science Monitor and Condé Nast Portfolio and has aired on National Public Radio.

The 2013-14 academic year marks the fifth annual CRE. UK continuously examines its efforts in improving new students' transition to campus and retaining them through a fulfilling collegiate experience. The CRE is meant to support those efforts through campuswide intellectual programming.
