ResultEUGENE, Ore. – Kentucky track and field alumnus Andy Fryman placed fifth in the hammer throw at the United States Olympic Team Trials before a crowd of 2,900 fans at Hayward Field on Wednesday.Fryman, a hammer throw All-American and 2006 Southeastern Conference Shot Put Champion, tossed a season-best mark 238’7”/72.73m on his fifth attempt to move into fifth place where he stayed to finish.Fryman finished 4’9” shy of a top-three finish although just like all of the top-three finishers in the trials hammer throw, Fryman did not record the Olympic Standard mark of 252'7"/77m this season. The top-three finishers who have the Olympic Standard at each event at U.S. Olympic Trials qualify for the games in Rio.A maximum of three American hammer throwers could receive invitations to the Olympic Games from the International Association of Athletics Federations.The hammer throw was contested inside Hayward Field for the first time on Wednesday as no other events – field or running – took place for safety considerations.Thursday PreviewThursday the Wildcats will be well represented again as competition ramps back up in multiple events. Thursday's action will be broadcast from 6-8 p.m. ET on NBC Sports Live Extra (digital platform) and from 8-11 p.m. on NBC Sports Network.The last two NCAA Champions in the 100-meter hurdles, now training partners under head coach Edrick Floreal – alumna Keni Harrison (2015) and freshman Jasmine Camacho-Quinn – will run the first round of the 100m hurdles. Harrison is in heat one starting at 5:02 p.m. ET. Camacho-Quinn is in heat two.Harrison is the world leader this season, having run the American Record and second fastest time in world history: 12.24 to win the Prefontaine Classic - her last outing at Hayward Field - in the spring. Camacho-Quinn is ranked eighth in the world this season having run a wind-legal PR 12.69 to win the SEC Title in May. She ran 12.54 wind aided to win the NCAA Championship at Hayward Field in June. Kiah Seymour – the reigning NCAA Silver Medalist in the 400m hurdles will start her Olympic Trials campaign at 5:58 p.m. with her preliminary heat.Two-time SEC Discus Champion Andrew Evans will take throws in the men’s discus qualifying, which starts at 9 p.m. ET. Evans is throwing in flight two.Wildcats already heading to RioLeah Nugent became the fifth Wildcat to qualify for 2016 Olympic Games in athletics so far this year, by placing second in the 400m hurdles at Jamaica Trials, last Saturday.Alumni Rondel Sorrillo, a UK volunteer assistant coach who trains in Lexington, and Mikel Thomas both qualified for the Olympics at the Trinidad and Tobago trials. Freshman Camacho-Quinn (Puerto Rico – 100m hurdles) and Luis Orta (Venezuela – marathon) are also already qualified for the Olympic Games. Camacho-Quinn has never competed internationally so she is still eligible to compete at U.S. Trials, as she is an American citizen.
