UK Women’s Tennis Unveils 2016-17 Schedule

LEXINGTON, Kentucky. – The University of Kentucky women’s tennis team has announced its 2016-17 fall and spring schedules, it was announced by head coach Carlos Drada, who will be entering his 12th year at the helm of UK women’s tennis this upcoming season.

Drada will have the Wildcats playing in six fall tournaments before the spring season kicks into full gear. The fall season will open on Sept. 30 with a trip to the Northwestern Invitational in Evanston, Illinois, hosted by Northwestern University which will run through Oct. 2. The next week for the Wildcats will be the All-American Tournament sponsored by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association in Los Angeles, California, which will run Oct. 4 through the 9. After a two-week hiatus, UK will travel to the Alabama Fall Invitational in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, to compete in the Crimson Tide’s tournament which runs Oct. 28-30.

The halfway mark of the fall season puts the Wildcats in a bordering state, as UK will make the trek south to play in the June Stewart just south of Lexington in Nashville, Tennessee, Oct. 7-9, which will run congruently with the All-American Tournament in Los Angeles. The Ohio Valley Regional Tournament will be in Murfreesboro, Tennessee from Oct. 20 through Oct. 24 with the winners advancing to National Indoors the first week of November at the United States National Tennis Center in Flushing, New York.

The spring season will have a first serve on Jan. 18 against the Marshall Thundering Herd in Huntington, West Virginia at 5 p.m. ET. The Wildcats will stay on the road for the rest of the week, traveling to Coral Gables, Florida to compete in the Miami Spring Invite hosted by the University of Miami Hurricanes from Jan. 20-23 in the Sunshine State.

Kentucky will open its 11-match home schedule on Saturday, Jan. 24 inside the Hilary J. Boone Varsity Tennis Center with a doubleheader beginning at 11 a.m. ET. The Miami University RedHawks will face the Wildcats at 11 a.m., with the Eastern Kentucky Colonels making the short trip north for the nightcap at 6 p.m. ET.

ITA Kick-Off Weekend will be on Jan. 27-29. Kentucky will be the No. 2 seed in the Atlanta, Georgia regional, hosted by the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets. UK faces No. 3 seeded UCLA in the first match on Friday, with the winner of that facing the winner of GT vs. Pennsylvania for the right to go to the ITA National Indoor Championships in New Haven, Connecticut.

Two Big 10 teams will be the opening competition in the month of February for the Wildcats, with UK traveling east to play Penn State on Saturday, Feb. 4 before a Feb. 19 dual match with Indiana in Bloomington. The non-conference schedule concludes with two Ivy League schools, as UK faces Columbia and Princeton in Lexington on Feb. 24 and 26.

The Southeastern Conference season kicks off on Friday, March 3 in Athens, as UK faces Georgia beginning at 3 p.m. ET. All SEC weekends will be comprised of a Friday/Sunday schedule in 2017 with the final weekend coming April 14-16 as UK faces Florida and South Carolina in Lexington to close the regular season. Kentucky will play all 13 other SEC schools in the conference slate of matches.

The SEC Tournament will be April 19-23 and hosted by Vanderbilt University in Nashville.
