Leah Edmond Wins Fifth SEC Freshman of the Week Award

LEXINGTON, Ky. – For the fifth-time in six weeks, Kentucky freshman Leah Edmond took home the Southeastern Conference Freshman of the Week award. Edmond won the weekly honor after averaging a team-best 3.50 kills per set and 3.17 digs per frame during sweeps of Arkansas and Ole Miss.

The award has been given out eight times this season, and Edmond has claimed five of those awards. The Lexington, Kentucky native is the only freshman to pick up the honors multiple times this season. Edmond also earned SEC Player of the Week honors on Oct. 3.

Edmond paced the Wildcats averaging 3.50 kills, 3.17 digs, 0.67 blocks and 4.17 points over the weekend.  On the year, Edmond averages 4.10 kills, which is best among freshmen in the conference and good for third overall.

The outside hitter led the Wildcats on a record-breaking night in Memorial Coliseum. During the sweep of Ole Miss, Edmond had a team-best 13 kills on 28 attempts, good for a .321 attacking clip. Her 13 kills helped Kentucky earn 55, which is the most in a three-set match in the 25-point rally scoring era.

Edmond has reached double-digit kill totals in all but two matches. In SEC play, she is averaging a team-best 4.46 kills per frame on a .259 percentage.

Kentucky returns to action on Friday night, when the Wildcats host South Carolina in Memorial Coliseum. The match is set to begin at 7 p.m. ET and can be seen on the SEC Network+.
